Communal Table

We were commissioned to design a bespoke table for the I-Hub Coworking Café, a new coworking space in Imperial College’s Translation & Innovation Hub.

The brief was to design a table that would allow for both work and leisure activities to happen concurrently, whilst fostering opportunity to engage in conversation and form new connections.

Following a series of observational studies on how people sit and work together in informal working spaces, we’ve designed a table capable of accommodating 12 people either working alone or in groups.

The table frame is made of a modular powder-coated steel and the top is made out of ply substrate and a recycled yoghurt pots top. The main feature of the product is its integrated lighting, which runs through a stainless steel tube, providing a more focused lighting without interfering with the relaxed environment of the coworking space.
