Lillie Road Community Hall

Freehaus have recently completed their first Passivhaus accredited scheme. The TRA Hall for Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the residents of the West Kensington Housing Estate. The commission provides community infrastructure including a large multi purpose hall, community kitchen, accessible WC provisions, a range of bookable meeting rooms and outside learning and play space.

Our approach deliver a robust cost effective scheme that supports community development and the widest range of possible user outputs. To do so we have embedded capped off services, demountable partitions, theatre lighting rigs that allow the space to be adapted and changed over time as the needs of the residents change and grow.

A significant emphasis was also placed on community engagement and opportunity for co-design. This has been hard baked into the contract documents. Outputs include a requirement for local artwork and residential identity touch points that will be crafted by local makers.

As a certified Passivhaus design, great emphasis has been placed on recycled material choices, reuse and demountability. For example all sanitary ware is being sourced from local buildings in the area earmarked for demolition via Hammersmith & Fulham demolition register.
